If you dig deep enough, underneath all the plastic hype, bling and glitz, Yuletide is actually a real and very potent time of year for Earth magic, as the fiery arrow of Sagittarius flies towards the Bull of fertility, and the Horned One of Capricorn springs into action at the Birth of the Radiant Child on the Winter Solstice.
In this article, I explain how you can join in the magic too, wherever you are, by turning yourself into a living and breathing advent calendar!
On the day of the Winter Solstice, December 21st, the story being told in the sky over Glastonbury in Somerset, England, is mirrored three times on the ground below.
At four hours before sunrise, the Sun aligns with the Sun in Underworld. Then at sunrise, we watch the Sun climbing the ‘staircase’ of the Tor. At midday, the ecliptic of the Sun crosses the Milky Way and forms a vesica piscis over the Tor … ready for the Birth of the Radiant Child. Later, at nightfall, the Three Wise Men of Orion’s Belt appear over the effigy of Orion in the landscape zodiac.
But you don’t have to live in Glastonbury to attune yourself to the Earth Magic of a such an auspicious calendrical event – and it’s highly recommended that you do, because it’s one sure way of experiencing a deep and rich Noel which is spiritually fulfilling. So here it is, a very easy way to bring some real Christmas spirits into your Yule this year.
It’s a mind-body-spirit technique which will turn you into a living and breathing advent calendar.
Turn yourself into a real life advent calendar
You don’t need to be a shaman to do this – use which ever spiritual practice suits you best to get in touch with your own spirit guides. But I suggest you start right away because we’re already on the first of the 12 days of Christmas. I do this myself and I promise you, it works.
I’m sure you’ll know the English Christmas Carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas …
On the first day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
A Partridge in a Pear Tree.
On the second day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
On the third day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
And so it goes on for 12 days, taking us to Christmas Day.
Our True Loves are our spirit guides …If we want them to come into our lives, we do have to invite them. For some reason, they have a kind of old-fashioned etiquette, and they won’t come without an invitation.
So here’s how to invite the sugar plum fairy into your life ….
You can work shamanically, by journeying, or you can just use prayer, or Reiki, or transformational breathwork or just meditation/visualisation … it doesn’t really matter how you do it, because the power is in your intention and your commitment to setting aside a small amount of time daily until Christmas, even if it’s just 10 minutes, to honour it and reinforce it.
The intention can be whatever you like … you can ask for help with your own health and wellbeing, or extend that wish more widely to your friends and family…. you can even ask for peace on Earth.
Each day, sit down to do your work with that intention and then watch the magic build, as healing messages from the ‘other side’ and unexpected encounters come into your life via synchronicities and dreams. Keep a diary and note down what happens, and what you experience, so that you can watch your stairway to the heavens build, one step upon the other.
You can stick to the same intention for each day, or you might find yourself developing sub-intentions which come under the umbrella of the main one, that might be the result of the messages you’re getting back from the spirits. That’s when the cauldron really starts bubbling …!
I like to put out offerings in thanks … but only do this if you feel comfortable with it.
So by making a powerful intention on each of the 12 days, by the time Christmas Day comes you will have built a glittering etheric temple of intention which will outshine any tinselled garland of coloured lights, and will bring real Earth magic streaming into your house with some sparkling and genuine peace and goodwill to all. And you won’t need a fairy to put on your tree because you’ll be surrounded by them!
You can do this work at any time of the year … but to become a living and breathing 12-day advent calendar, you will need to start today. Don’t worry if you’re late though, just jump in whenever you can!
