Genetically modified foods make you fat … and sick and sterile

Numerous scientic tests show that genetically modified foods also cause stomach inflammation, haemorrhagic bowel disease, thinning of intestinal walls, breast cancer, kidney and liver disease, low sperm count, sterility, stillbirths …. need I go on?

The picture of Michelangelo’s David’s return to Italy from America, where it’s been for two years, is a joke. But it is no joke that our American friends are being used as guinea pigs by the bio-tech companies, and then when the results of the experiment patently show that GM foods are so obviously detrimental to health and fitness, the government watchdogs which are supposed to protect our food, and the general public, continue to sleepwalk into a nutritional disaster.

The study which found the connection between GM foods and obesity was published in 2009… and was totally ignored by the US government which has been largely infiltrated at the highest levels by the biotech companies. People who are overweight are just labelled as ‘lazy’ when it’s often the very fact of their obesity which causes them to feel fatigued in just getting through the day, without adding to that load with having to also exercise at the gym or go jogging.

These obese people are actually very ill, and they have been made ill by their food companies and a government which refuses to protect them by at least allowing labelling of GM foods, if not actually prosecuting the GM companies as the Russian government will be.

One might wonder why the diet and slimming industry doesn’t warn of the connection between GMs and obesity…. until you realise that many of those slimming foods are being manufactured by the same food producers that use GM ingredients.

One day, historians will look back on these days in the same way that we now regard the tobacco companies who knew, all along, that smoking caused lung cancer. But they may find it difficult to come up with a reason as to why people kept on buying these foods, no matter the evidence piling up in front of their very eyes.

Here are some extracts from the 2009 study on obesity and GM foods, which was published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences.

“We present for the first time a comparative analysis of blood and organ system data from trials with rats fed three main commercialized genetically modified (GM) maize (NK 603, MON 810, MON 863), which are present in food and feed in the world.

“The three animal feeding studies were conducted in two different laboratories and at two different dates; at Monsanto (Missouri, USA) for NK 603 and MON 810 (June 7, 2000) and at Covance Laboratories Inc. (Virginia, USA) for MON 863 (March 14, 2001) on behalf of Monsanto.

“Crude and relative liver weights are also affected at the end of the maximal (33%) GM maize feeding level as well as that of the heart which for corresponding parameters to a comparable extent, showed up to an 11% weight increase.

“Additional statistically significant differences include … higher … overall body (3.7%) weight …

Several parameters indicate increases in circulating glucose and triglyceride levels, with liver function parameters disrupted together with a slight increase in total body weight. This physiological state is indicative of a pre-diabetic profile.

Our data strongly suggests that these GM maize varieties induce a state of hepatorenal [i.e. kidney and liver] toxicity.”

There is a school of thought which believes that GMs make us put on weight partly because of the new pesticides which are built-in to the genetically-modified seeds. Some GM maize seeds are engineered to produce their own pesticides and no amount of washing and scrubbing of the corn can get rid of it, so we’re forced to ingest it upon which it enters our bloodstreams.

These in-built pesticides – glyphosate and AMPA in NK 603, modified Cry1Ab in MON 810, modified Cry3Bb1 in MON 863 – have never before been a part of the human or animal diet, and the consequences of eating them over a long period is not known.

Some tests have also shown that even animals are getting fatter, which is problem for the UK too. As we found in researching for our GM phone app, Shop GMO Free, where most foods in UK supermarkets don’t contain genetically modified ingredients, very few food producers could guarantee to us that their animals were fed on GM-free soya – and most of the world’s soya supply is contaminated with GM soya.
